Rapid KL has announced that some of its travel passes are finally available for purchase online, specifically the My50 and MyCity travel passes. This means that you’ll no longer to need to purchase the passes at Rapid KL counters, however, there is a huge caveat that makes this move effectively pointless.
The Prasarana-owned company now sells the My50 pass as well as the one-day and three-day MyCity passes through its MyRapid PULSE app as well as its online store. They are sold at the same price as offline purchases but unfortunately, you’ll need to activate the pass at one of its counters after purchasing it, defeating the purpose of buying the pass online.
All three passes are only sold to Malaysians, so you’ll need to present both your MyKad as well as the purchase receipt at the counter in order to activate the pass. You will only have 30 days after your purchase to validate the pass before it is nullified.
As usual, your MyKad will need a minimum purse value of RM6 in order to use the pass with any Rapid KL service. Confusingly, there will still be a RM0.50 reload fee when you activate the pass, even if you’ve already purchased the pass online.
