Samsung is rolling out a new feature for its users called Temporary Cloud Backup. Just like the temporary iCloud storage feature on iOS devices, this allows users to backup the entire content of their Galaxy devices for a limited time.
Temporary Cloud Backup is being released globally starting this fall for Galaxy smartphones and tablets running on One UI 6. As previously mentioned, it allows users to backup their device without any storage limit, meaning that you can safely make a copy of an unlimited number of photos, videos, and other data, but it comes with some caveats.
For one thing, while the allocation is unlimited, it won’t allow you to backup individual files bigger than 100GB. Secondly, you’ll only have 30 days to restore and transfer the data to your new or existing device before Samsung deletes it, although it will warn you before it does that. Not only does this make transferring to a new phone easier, but it will also give you peace of mind when sending your device for repairs.
Moreover, Temporary Cloud Backup is actually part of Maintenance Mode. In case you’re unfamiliar, Maintenance Mode, which was just widely rolled out this year, lets you lock down parts of your phone that you don’t want to be exposed when it’s sent for repairs.
