Samsung has recently unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip5 Retro, a new limited edition of its latest compact foldable smartphone. This particular variant pays tribute to the brand’s classic E700 clamshell handset that launched 20 years ago, which also happened to feature a decently sized external screen – at least for the time.
Taking cues from the older Samsung phone, the Galaxy Z Fip5 Retro sports the same silver colour for its frame and hinge, while its rear case is presented in indigo blue. Meanwhile, featured on its cover screen is an animated cityscape that serves as a tribute to early 2000s pixel graphics, while on-screen text appears in cyan. The latter of which is a nod to the E700’s own external display, especially when once it enters the Always On state.
As with most of Samsung’s limited edition releases, included together with the Galaxy Z Flip5 Retro are numerous goodies such as a Flipsuit case, cards and stickers which features the brand’s logos from past eras. For the uninitiated, the name “Samsung” literally means “three stars” in Korean, hence the depiction of which featured in the company’s older branding.
Also packaged together is a special E700 collector card engraved with a unique serial number, though the company did not actually say how many units are actually being distributed across applicable markets. On that note, Samsung says the limited edition variant will only be available in South Korea, the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Australia.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is offered exclusively via the brand’s official website, though no pricing has been provided at this time. Unfortunately, it is very unlikely for the phone to be available in Malaysia.
