ASUS has announced two new workstation motherboards, designed primarily to work with AMD’s new Threadripper 7000 Pro Series processors. These motherboards are the Pro WS WRX90E-SAGE SE and TRX50-SAGE WIFI.
Both the ASUS WRX90E-SAGE SE and TRX50-SAGE WIFI are designed to work with all CPU models of the Threadripper Pro 7000 WX-Series but as per our earlier launch coverage, the HEDT Threadripper processors (ie. the non-Pro models) are only compatible with the TRX50-SAGE WIFI motherboard. Getting back on point the WRX90E-SAGE SE features a VRM comprising a 32+3+3+3 power stage delivery, 2nd Gen ProCool II connectors, 12 V CPU input, and all-metal heatsinks and solid pins around the board, for better overall heat dissipation. Through this motherboard, the brand is also offering up to 144 PCIe Gen5 lanes. Which is relatively generous, given that even the top-tier Threadripper Pro 7995WX CPU only offers 128 Gen5 lanes, tops.
For enthusiasts looking to get back into the HEDT PC scene, the TRX50-SAGE WIFI will support AMD’s non-Pro Threadripper lineup, from the 24-core 7960X, up to the lineup’s top-tier, 64-cores 7980X CPU. Through the motherboard, users will have access to up to 88 PCIe lanes, but only 48 PCIe Gen5 Lanes.
Naturally, as these ASUS motherboards and Threadripper CPUs are designed to run AMD’s current Zen4 architecture, that also means that the WRX90E-SAGE SE and TRX50-SAGE WIFI supports the latest DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 interface, with the former feature supporting up to eight memory modules at a go.
At the time of writing, ASUS did not release the official pricing for the PRO WS WRX90E-SAGE SE and TRX50-SAGE WIF Threadripper Pro motherboards, nor did it provide an exact availability date for said motherboards.
