Reliable tipster Mark Gurman is suggesting that Apple may be debuting new Macs products soon. According to the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, expected later this month is a refreshed iMac as well as new MacBook Pros which are said to feature the company’s new M3 first-party silicon. If this sounds familiar to you, that’s because the Bloomberg journalist had previously brought this up earlier in August, though this time around he believes that an upcoming launch is imminent.
Gurman noted that Apple retail stores are now in short supply of the current-gen iMac as well as the 13-, 14-, and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, which he believes is a “clear sign that something is about to happen”. This is referring to the supposed arrival of the three M3-equipped Mac products mentioned earlier that are expected to launch next week on either 30 or 31 October 2023.
For the allegedly upcoming iMac, the Bloomberg journalist is claiming that Apple’s next-gen model will skip the M2 in favour of the newer M3 chip instead. It’s worth noting that the device’s current iteration is the only member left from the Mac family to come with the company’s three-year-old M1 silicon, so a long overdue hardware upgrade is to be expected. Apart from that, he said that the newer iMac will retain the same 24-inch display size as its predecessor.
In regards to the newer MacBook Pros, it is believed that Apple is expected to refresh only the 14- and 16-inch variants with the new M3 silicon for now. Provided that this particular information is true, the move is rather surprising for the company, as it had just launched the M2 Pro and M2 Max versions of its high-end laptops back in January. In the same report, Gurman noted that an additional update within the same year “would be unusual, but not inconceivable.”
While the tipster is somewhat certain that newer Macs are incoming, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes otherwise. Last month, he said that M3-equipped iMacs and MacBook are very unlikely to launch this year, and a hardware update could plausibly happen sometime in 2024 instead.
看起來到今年年底前,Apple應該都不會發售新款的MacBook (配備M3系列處理器) 機型了

It seems that Apple will not launch new MacBook models (equipped with M3 series processors) before the end of this year.— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) September 8, 2023
Additionally, Kuo also shot down any possibilities of newer iPads coming before the end of 2023. As you may recall, it was reported by Supercharged and 9to5Mac that next-gen models of Apple’s tablets were expected to launch last week, though this later turned out to be inaccurate in the end.
