During this year’s Selangor Smart City And Digital Economy Convention, the Selangor state government announced a major expansion of its Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) programme, bringing its coverage to a total of eight zones. This comes after it was announced earlier this year that the state wants to eventually launch the service nationwide following a successful trial in Puchong.
For the Puchong zone, we already knew that it was expanding to Pusat Bandar Puchong, Puchong Jaya, and Bandar Kinrara Section 5, covering an estimated 10km radius within the area. What’s new is that the first phase of the expansion will also include three more zones, namely Ampang, Subang Jaya, and Bandar Utama/Damansara. This phase will be implemented in November.
There will be four other zones announced in the second phase. While it is still unclear when this phase will begin, it is expected to be completed in July 2024. According to Executive Councillor for Investment, Trade, And Mobility Ng Sze Han, the state plans to replace Smart Selangor buses with DRT vans in high-density areas with narrow passageways.
Currently, there are two service providers for the DRT programme, Trekrides by Asia Mobiliti and Mobi by BadanBas Coach. Under the areas that it services, Mobi charges RM4 per ride but currently offers a 50% discount. The van can accommodate up to 15 passengers and if you order as a group, it costs an additional RM1 per head.
