Tune Talk has introduced its new Pocket WiFi rental service, which lets you get access to a portable hotspot for when you’re travelling. The service offers coverage in over 140 countries with the rental starting from RM8 per day.
While the plans are being advertised as “unlimited data”, the reality is that you get a limited quota based on which plan you choose. There are options for 1GB of high-speed daily internet, 5GB, and 10GB. After you’ve depleted your quota, you will be limited to a speed of 512kbps until it renews the next day.
While Asian countries are the cheapest, with a starting price of RM8 per day for the base plan for some countries, North American and Middle Eastern countries are the most expensive, starting from RM28 per day. You can purchase your plan through the Tune Talk app or website, but it seems that you’ll need to rent on a per country basis with no option for regional or worldwide coverage.
The Pocket Wifi device provided by Tune Talk supports 4G LTE with a 12-hour battery life and is able to support up to eight devices at a time. For now, the device can only be picked up at KLIA 1 and 2, but according to its website, the company plans on expanding it to Kota Kinabalu International Airport and Penang International Airport.
