UPDATE (7PM, 13 October): Carousell has provided some updates on what users can expect that’s new to the Buyer Protection beyond what Carousell Protection already provides.
ORIGINAL STORY (12PM, 12 October 2023):
E-commerce platform Carousell claims that almost 80% of users it surveyed would rather their transactions be covered by its Carousell Protection policies. In light of that, the platform has announced that it has rolled out the “Buy” button to users in Malaysia, describing it as “a one-click solution for users to buy and sell items safely and conveniently”.
That being said, frequent users may notice that the Buy button has been present for awhile now. Update: Carousell says that this is being rolled out to users in stages since the end of September. More recently, the platform has seen a layout change within its mobile app which puts the Buy button more prominently at the top of the page, with the option to chat with the seller relegated way down below. Though some users have already seen this change for a couple of weeks, according to our colleague and Carousell frequent user Ikmal Rozlan.
In addition to the layout change, the platform has also launched what it calls Buyer Protection, which will soon replace the existing Carousell Protection. In a press release, the company says that this will result in enhanced customer support to resolve disputes between buyer and seller but did not not any new features that the current safeguard didn’t already provide. Update: This includes the company stepping in to mediate and help resolve disputes between buyer and seller. In addition, there are stricter criteria that sellers have to meet to be eligible to listing an item with Buyer Protection.
As a side note, the company also says that it is continuing its collaboration with PosLaju as the default shipping service. For what it is worth, Carousell Malaysia is celebrating the launch of this Buy button feature with a giveaway of prizes worth up to RM7,000. Users will be eligible simply by making purchases with the Buy button. You can find out more about the giveaway by hitting this link.
