X, formerly Twitter, has been introducing more and more features to incentivise its “verified” subscription service. Examples of such endeavours include being able to make longer posts as well as edit them, letting only verified accounts send DMs to each other, and pushing verified accounts to the top of people’s feed and replies on posts. Now, that last example is being pushed even further, with an additional option of letting only verified accounts reply to posts.
The announcement came via the official X account on the platform, with an image to illustrate the feature. Which does seem redundant, considering replies from verified users are already being pushed to the top of replies anyway.

On the flip side, those paying for verification and hoping for a payout can probably see this as a way to maximise returns. After all, the higher the number of verified accounts that interact with your content on the platform, the more a paying user gets paid. This would allow those looking to monetise their verification to only deal with ragebait and trolling from their fellow verified users.
In a sense, this would also benefit the average user on the platform, as being locked out of a bait post saves them the mental capacity that can be used for something else. But on the other hand, it limits the ability to fact check posts to only paying users as well.
