Tesla today has announced the official opening of its first Supercharger station in Johor, which is located at the Sunway Big Box Retail Park in Iskandar Puteri. This marks the second of its charging hubs to be available in Malaysia, where the first of which can be found in Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur.
According to the company, the activation of its Supercharger Station in the state of Johor promises to provide a seamless charging experience for Tesla owners in both Malaysia and Singapore, enabling them to enjoy cross-country road trips. This particular installation has a total of four Superchargers with various charging options for users of the company’s EVs.
And as with its first hub at Pavilion, the station in Sunway Big Box also leverages on the company’s V3 Supercharging technology which offers a peak efficiency of 250kW. With this, it is claimed that a 15 minute charge is enough to provide the Model Y EV with 270km of range.
To commemorate its opening, Tesla is offering owners of its EVs a special Supercharging rate of RM0.63/kWh for a limited time. However, do keep in mind that hogging a station after fully charging your vehicle will cost you handsomely, thanks to an idling fee which fines you RM4 for every minute spent.
In regards to the availability of Superchargers in other locations in Malaysia, Tesla assures that it is committed to expanding the network across the country and promises that more stations will be opened soon. So far, the brand’s website has revealed that there are 11 other potential locations in Peninsular Malaysia, with eight based in the Klang Valley and three others in Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Penang respectively.
Apart from that, Tesla’s Model Y will also be on display at the main concourse of Sunway Big Box from 5 to 8 October 2023, providing visitors with an up-close experience of the upcoming EV. Speaking of which, the all-electric crossover SUV is expected to be delivered to Malaysian customers by early 2024.
Meanwhile on a related note, the company recently opened its first Tesla Centre in Cyberjaya earlier this week. In addition, the same launch on Monday also saw the brand announcing the arrival date of its Model 3 EV, which is expected sometime by the end of this month.
