WhatsApp may be allowing users to pin messages to the top of chats in the future. The feature has appeared in the beta version of the app, specifically in version 2.23.6.17 of the Android app.
According to WABetaInfo, the new option which simply reads “Pin” appears when you hold down a text box and then tap on the kebab menu. Hitting the new option gives you a choice of pinning said message for a choice of 24 hours, seven days or 30 days. Which is surprisingly rigid, but on the flip side you won’t have issues with forgetting to unpin it when the message in question becomes no longer relevant.
Despite having only three choices for the pin duration, the report notes that you can dismiss the pinned message at any time before the actual expiration. It’s not only for group chats either, as the report says the option is also available for private WhatsApp chats with individuals.
Alongside the pin feature, the report notes that WhatsApp is also testing a redesigned chat attachment sheet. It’s merely a slight layout adjustment from the looks of it, as the seven options remain available.
As the report notes, these changes are currently only available for a few beta testers. It will be awhile before they get rolled out “to more people over the coming weeks”. With that in mind, it would take even longer before they get to the general WhatsApp release.
