Many Android phones would have the Google News app installed by default, often also accessible by simply swiping left from the home screen. Though those who make frequent use of this but would prefer to read the latest news in Bahasa Melayu may have found this wanting. If you are among them, then you’ll be glad to know that the national language is now an available option in Google News.
Switching your default language is as simple as heading to the Settings menu, selecting Language and region, followed by Search language. And since the language option is Bahasa Melayu, you will be able to see it near the very top of the list. If you usually use Google News via your web browser, then all you need to do is to hit this link.
Naturally, to make the most out of this service, you’ll have to not only be logged into your Google account, but also be using it on the regular. After all, there is some curation involved when it comes to the sort of news that Google News pushes to you. That being said, the service is still available to those who choose to surf the web anonymously.
As part of the announcement, the internet search giant says that it hopes “the availability of Google News in Bahasa Melayu helps more people find the news they’re looking for”. The company says that this is part if its “commitment to making information accessible to people across the globe in the language they prefer.
