Last year, Spotify started offering a catalogue of over 300,000 audiobook titles for sale on its platform in select markets shortly following its acquisition of Findaway. Now, the company announced that over 150,000 audiobooks, about half of its entire collection, will be made available on-demand for Premium subscribers.
According to the audio streaming giant, any book that carries the “Included in Premium” label will be available to for listening as long as you’re a paying user. It claims that the catalogue includes more than 70% of bestselling books from major publishers such as Hachette, HarperCollins Publishers, Macmillan, Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, and RB Media, as well as independent authors and publishers.
A caveat of this is that users are limited to only 15 hours of listening per month for audiobooks, although there will be an option to purchase a 10-hour top-up. Moreover, the monthly allocation will only be received by the primary account holder of Family and Duo plans.
Unfortunately, the availability of audiobooks for Premium users will only be rolled out to the UK and Australia, with the US getting it later this year. Spotify did not reveal when it plans on bringing this feature to other markets, although considering that even the ability to purchase audiobooks a la carte has not made its way here yet, we could be waiting a while.
