New details regarding the OnePlus Open has been popping up on the internet with relative frequency ever since the company teased its upcoming foldable’s name. One instance though involves its similarity with a sister company’s product, the OPPO Find N3. There have been rumours that the two are essentially the same device with a different badge on them, meant for different markets. More recently, a company executive has seemingly confirmed this in a statement.
The Verge reports that Pete Lau has instructed teams at both companies to develop the foldable device “in tandem to be released under both brands in different markets”. The report notes that the announcement emailed to the outlet did not mention which specific devices the company was referring two, but claims of similarities between the OnePlus Open and OPPO Find N3 would line up with the announcement. And for context, Lau is OPPO’s chief product officer as well as co-founder and CEO of OnePlus.
Judging from past device launches, it is probably safe to say that the OPPO Find N3 will be a China exclusive, the way its predecessors have been. On the other hand, the OnePlus Open currently has a rumoured global launch date of 19 October.
Specs-wise, current rumours point to the OnePlus Open, and by extension the OPPO Find N3, sporting a 7.8-inch 2K 120Hz inner display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, with 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage space. Its battery is rumoured to be rated at 4,800mAh, with support for 67W charging. Beyond these, it is also said to come with a periscope telephoto lens and the alert slider.
