Earlier in the year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple will not be producing an iPhone SE 4. The device, should it be made, will be relegated to engineering prototype status, being a testbed for its in-house 5G chip. But it looks like new rumours are sprouting, challenging the initial claim.
MacRumors cites its own sources as saying that claim a few things about the iPhone SE 4, which hint at it eventually being a production phone that customers can buy. One new element that it will be getting is reportedly the Action button which, as far as iPhones are concerned, have only just shown up with the iPhone 15 Pro line. It will also be sporting USB-C, which comes as less of a surprise in comparison since it’s legally mandated in the EU.
The claim goes on to say that beyond these changes, the iPhone SE 4 will be making use of a modified chassis from the iPhone 14, as well as the OLED screen from the same phone. These claims still match up with what was previously reported. Moving to the back, the phone is claimed to sport only a single camera, but it will be using a 48MP shooter. This may be sharing a camera bump with its LED flash in one possible design iteration, while another has only the camera be elevated from the main body.
The report notes that all these changes are too extensive for a device that will remain an engineering sample for an in-house 5G chip. All that being said, these claims are noted to be just preliminary, with the iPhone SE 4 still bieng in early development. With that in mind, there is no estimated release date just get, with plenty of changes still possible between now and an actual release.
