Tecno Malaysia has released a teaser via its official Facebook page earlier today, hinting on an upcoming local announcement for its first-ever clamshell foldable smartphone, the Phantom V Flip. For those who missed it, the device first launched in India late last month, which was also revealed to sport a very attractive price tag.
According to the teaser, Tecmo is set to fully unveil the Phantom V Flip in Malaysia in another three days. In other words, the date you should look out for is 5 October 2023, which falls on Thursday this week. Chances are, the upcoming reveal might just be an announcement for a local launch that might happen on a much later date.
To recap, the launch in India revealed that the phone will sport a large circular island on its upper shell, which is also shown to feature a rounded display in the centre, as well as two cameras and an LED flash along its ring. The external screen is a 1.32-inch AMOLED panel with 466 x 466 pixels resolution and 800-nits peak brightness, while its internal foldable display is a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with 1080 x 2640 pixels resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and 1000-nits peak brightness. Also onboard is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, and a USB-C port for both charging and data transfer.
On the inside, the Phantom V Flip comes equipped with a Mediatek Dimensity 8050 chipset, a Mali-G77 MC9 GPU, as well as a single memory configuration of 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Powering it is a 4,000mAh battery, which also features 45W wired fast charging support. According to Tecno, a 50% charge can be achieved in just 15 minutes.
As for imaging, found on the upper shell of the compact foldable smartphone is a dual camera setup which consists of a 64MP primary and a 13MP ultra-wide. Meanwhile, housed within the punch-hole cutout on its internal foldable display is a 32MP selfie camera.
For the Indian market, the new Tecno Phantom V Flip is retailing at INR49,999 (~RM2,830), and is offered in two colour options: Purple and Black. Should the phone debut within the same price range in Malaysia, this would make it one of the more affordable Flip-style foldables in the market, as well as a strong contender against the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and the upcoming OPPO Find N3 Flip.
