It is that time of year again where self-proclaimed time traveller Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks) reveals the designs of Samsung’s next-generation flagship smartphones many months ahead of their potential launch date. Sure enough, the tipster today has kicked off this yearly ritual by providing us all with a look at the alleged vanilla variant of the Galaxy S24, which is shown to feature a somewhat familiar design. However, it is worth noting that the phone actually isn’t the first model from the supposedly upcoming series to have been featured in a leak.
Anyway, if you thought that the next-generation Samsung smartphone looks almost no different to its predecessor, then you’re not alone. But upon closer inspection, you’ll notice that its frames are now flatter and there’s actually a new addition to the right-hand side of the phone, just below the volume rocker and lock button. According to Hemmerstoffer (via Smartprix), this component is actually the Ultra-Wideband antenna, which may or may not play a major role for the Galaxy S24 as well as the entire series.
Other noticeable differences include the much slimmer bezels surrounding its flat display, and the lowered flash unit beside the vertically arranged triple camera setup. Even though everything else on the vanilla Galaxy S24 looks pretty much the same as this year’s model, fellow leakster Ice Universe claims that the phone will actually feature a slightly larger 6.2-inch display which offers FHD+ resolution and 2500-nit brightness. Meanwhile, OnLeak says the screen will feature a Dynamic M13 AMOLED LTPO panel and has a refresh rate of 120Hz.
Besides that, it is believed that the base Galaxy S24 model will feature either a Snapdragon 8 Gen3 or an Exynos 2400 chipset, up to 12GB RAM, up to 512GB storage, a 12MP front-facing camera, as well as a rear triple camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary sensor, 12MP ultra-wide and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Interestingly, both sources have conflicting information when it comes to the onboard battery. OnLeaks claims the vanilla model’s 4,000mAh battery could come with 45W fast charging, whereas Ice Universe believes that it will retain its predecessor’s 25W rate instead.
Due to the inconsistencies, we suppose we need not remind you which type of mineral you should take along with the information provided. Sadly, we will only find out which source is actually accurate when Samsung officially launches its next-generation flagship smartphones. When that may be is still unconfirmed at this time, but Ice Universe believes that it might happen in mid-January next year.
