The iPhone 15 series has yet to arrive in Malaysia, but local would-be owners should be warned of a major bug that’s causing them to be rendered unusable. As it turns out, users who’ve already picked up the new line-up in certain markets have reported experiencing an issue where their phones get stuck on the Apple logo boot screen after transferring their data from their previous devices.
Not long after the complaints, Apple opened a new support page on its website to help address the iPhone 15 series’ bug. According to the guide, users are first required to connect their new device to a computer with the iTunes app installed via a cable, and then initiate a forced reset. To do the latter, quickly press the volume up and down buttons, and then quickly press and hold on the lock button until you see an image of a computer and cable appear after the Apple logo.
From there, locate the iPhone 15 model in either the Finder app on Mac or in the iTunes app on Windows, and then choose the “Restore” option to reset it back to its original state. After the phone is rebooted, start the set-up process, skip the option to transfer data from your previous device, and proceed to download/install iOS 17.0.2 instead. Only after you’ve installed the latest firmware can you safely transfer your data to your new iPhone.
It goes without saying that local users who’ve yet to receive their new iPhone 15 models are highly advised to update their firmware to the latest version after booting them up for the first time. Like the steps above, make sure to only transfer all of your data from your previous device once iOS 17.0.2 (or newer) have been installed. While there is a chance that Apple may ship iPhone 15 models with newer firmware for the Malaysian market, it’s best that you update them to any new iOS versions before initiating data transfers just in case.
To recap our prior reports, Apple’s new iPhone 15 series is slated to be available in Malaysia on 29 September 2023. Pre-orders are available now through the company’s official website, as well as via local telcos including CelcomDigi, U Mobile, Maxis and even Yes 5G.
