Rapid KL will be launching a new mobile app to coordinate all the public bus routes available in Klang Valley. The app will be available by the end of this year and will consolidate the routes between three government-run bus operators in order to make it more efficient and convenient for commuters.
The app is being jointly developed by Rapid Bus, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), and the Selangor state government. This means that the app will display the routes for buses under Rapid KL, GoKL, and Smart Selangor. Rapid Bus chief executive officer Muhammad Yazurin Sallij Muhammad Yassin said the app is currently in the data collection phase.
Yazurin did not reveal any other function of the app other than it being able to display available routes. That being said, it wouldn’t be surprising if it also had live tracking of the buses as the current apps of all three operators already offer that feature.
On a related note, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced earlier this month that the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) will coordinate bus routes in Klang Valley to be more integrated to avoid any overlaps. He also expects the number of daily operating buses to increase from 724 to 1,000 by year-end.
