Apple made a big deal about the iPhone 15 Pro having impressive gaming potential. And at the time, they were simply bold claims. But now, we may have an example of it going through the phone equivalent of a live fire exercise. And it looks to be performing much better than expected.
This comes courtesy of YouTuber Vincent Zhong, who starts off as an unboxing and review video. The video is in Mandarin, and the beginning of the video goes through just about the way you’d expect from a video review. But the bit we’re jumping straight to the 13:49 mark, where he starts going into the gaming aspect of the iPhone 15 Pro.
The section starts off showing the iPhone 15 Pro playing Resident Evil Village, with nothing much going on in the game. Then Zhong plugs the phone to an external display, and connects the DualSense controller via Bluetooth. One of the first things being shown here is the options menu of the game, which tells us that, played this way, it is locked at 1,560 x 720 and 30fps.
Despite these limitations, the game looks to run just fine, For a mobile experience, anyway. Even when plugged to a bigger screen, the game runs with enough details for the experience to be a sufficiently pleasant one. Of course, it all falls apart until you start pixel-peeking and apply current-generation console and PC standards to it.
Zhong does mention that Resident Evil Village is not yet actually available via the Apple App Store. We won’t speculate where he got the copy of the game for his iPhone 15 Pro from, but it’s probably safe to say that you’ll have to wait quite a bit before you can emulate the experiment. After all, Death Stranding is still only being listed as available for pre-order on the Mac App store, with an expected launch date in December despite its WWDC appearance.
