Apps getting updated every once in a while is pretty much expected, especially to add new features or to patch security holed. But with banking apps adopting more stringent anti-fraud measures, the process can be a little more involved than just hitting the update button. Such may be the case for users of the CIMB Clicks app, according to the bank’s post on its Facebook page.
The post notes that a new version of the CIMB Clicks app is available (version 4.1.109 on Android, 6.1.110 on iOS), and naturally urges users to update as soon as possible. It’s a mandatory update that adds “more features and services to continuously ensure security”. But for iOS users specifically, re-authentication may be required, as well as the 12-hour cooling off period that follows.
CIMB says that this is to ensure that the CIMB Clicks app is “in sync and up to date with our records”. Reiterated in the post is that this is part of the measures being taken to combat fraud. That being said, the bank did not elaborate on specifics, nor explain why this is an issue specifically for iOS devices, and not Android.
If you’re an iOS user of CIMB Clicks, and have successfully updated without facing any issue, then you’re good to go. For those who have not performed the update, it’s probably best to do so as soon as you can, just so that you are not caught off-guard by the 12-hour cooling off period when you need a transaction approved.
