Following the launch of the iPhone 15 and its Pro variants last week, Apple has more recently announced new plans for its iCloud+ service. Where the cloud storage service previously maxed out at 2TB of additional storage space, you now get two additional options, which are 6TB and 12TB.
Naturally, the fruit company is tying the new, much more spacious iCloud+ options to the new iPhone 15 range’s 48MP camera. Which is fair, since the higher pixel count does result in photos of larger sizes. Users who do a lot of video recording in 4K may also need the extra space, though this is not something that’s new with this year’s batch of iPhones.
Perhaps more pertinent to the use of more space in the iCloud+ is the HomeKit Secure Video support. While this is available for all tiers, the 50GB tier only supports one camera, while the 200GB lets you handle five. The 2TB or above plans allow for an unlimited number of cameras, which is likely where the additional space will come in handy.
Of course, if you’re not into setting up dozens of cameras in the name of security, all that additional iCloud+ space can still be used for storing libraries of original files, be they high-resolution photos, or assets for your video projects. This will likely come in handy when Apple refreshes the iPad Pro models, rumoured to happen next year, or sooner with the similarly rumoured silent launch of the iPad Air 6.
But back to the new iCloud+ plans. The existing 50GB, 200GB and 2TB plans are priced at RM3.90, RM11.90 and RM44.90 a month respectively. But what about the new 6TGB and 12TB ones? These have a monthly cost of RM129.90 and RM269.90 respectively instead.
