Satellite TV and IPTV provider Astro has announced that it has making two of its own apps, SYOK and the My Astro app, available on its Ultra and Ulti boxes. The former adds to the number of premium streaming apps available on its own boxes, joining another relatively recent addition, WeTV, which was added last month.
If you’re unfamiliar with SYOK, it serves as a hub for quite a wide variety of forms of entertainment. This extends to online radio stations, podcasts, and videos, as well as news and other articles. These also come in a variety of flavours, with content coming in English, Bahasa Melayu, Chinese and Tamil. Now, you can access content provided by this service via both the Ulti and Ultra boxes, in addition to the existing options which are Android and iOS devices.
As mentioned earlier, the streaming service has also announced that it is also making its My Astro app available on its Ulti and Ultra boxes. This will allow subscribers to get access to their subscription management tools from the same device that is the gateway to their subscribed entertainment medium. You can also pay your bills and get add-ons,a s well as upgrade your TV Packs this way, rather than having to do so via the app on a mobile device. Of course, that remains an option for those who prefer it.
It’s worth noting that SYOK is run by Astro Radio, with a revamp of the app having taken place in 2021. It’s more or less the same story with the My Astro app, which was also relaunched in 2021. With that in mind, it’s a little surprising that both apps are only now added to the Ulti and Ultra boxes. Though the two streaming devices also have a history of getting access to premium streaming apps in a staggered manner themselves.
