Fujifilm has recently introduced its latest flagship medium format mirrorless camera, the GFX100 II. It is confirmed to be coming to Malaysia in the last quarter of the year, with pre-orders now available via authorised the brand’s local GFX Premium Partners until 26 September 2023.
Despite being a direct successor to the original model from 2019, the new GFX100 II closely resembles the smaller GFX100S from two years prior, but with slight tweaks to the overall design. This also means that the shooter loses its predecessor’s dual grip capabilities, though Fujifilm assures that users can still achieve this by opting for an optional battery grip that’s sold separately.
Powering the new medium format mirrorless camera is an upgraded 43.9 x 32.9 mm 102MP sensor, along with the same fifth generation X-Processor that’s also featured on the brand’s X-H2S and X-H2 cameras. It also has an improved ISO range of 80 to 12,800, an in-body five-axis IBIS with eight stops of stabilisation, as well as AI-based subject detection autofocus and tracking.
Performance-wise, Fujifilm claims that the GFX100 II is capable of continuous shooting of up to 8 frames per second, therefore making it the fastest medium format camera system so far. It can also record videos up to 8K at 30 frames per second (fps), 4K at up to 60fps, and even 5.8K at up to 30fps. Furthermore, the camera supports Apple ProRes 4:2:2 10-bit and Blackmagic RAW, and can even record directly to an attached SSD via USB-C. Newly introduced on the GFX100 II is a new REALA ACE mode that’s added to the brand’s signature Film Simulations onboard feature, which is said to offer a neutral colour reproduction suitable for all subjects.
Back to the body, the new medium format mirrorless camera comes with 3.2-inch three-directional tiltable touchscreen LCD monitor with 2.36 million dots resolution, as well as a 0.64-inch OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) with 9.44 million dots resolution, 1.0x magnification and built-in eye sensor. Like its predecessor, the EVF on the GFX100 II is removable, enabling you to attach it to the brand’s existing EVF-TL1 tilting adapter. Apart from that, its I/O includes a USB3.2 Gen2 Type-C port, a Type A HDMI connector and dual 3.5mm jacks for input and output, while supported wireless connectivity includes WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2 LE.
The new GFX100 II is priced at RM38,888 for body only, while the optional VG-GFX100 II battery grip retails for RM2,499. Fujifilm notes that the latter is discounted at a special PWP (purchase-within-purchase) price of only RM1,499 if you choose to get it together with the camera. Additionally, those who purchase the camera within its pre-order period are also entitled to receive free gifts worth RM6,497, including a 128GB CF Express Type B card, a Manfrotto backpack, 1-Year extended warranty and more.
