HMD Global will soon be launching smartphones under its own brand, which will see the company expand its portfolio of mobile devices. Currently, the manufacturer owns the exclusive rights to Nokia-branded smartphones, but the licensing agreement is set to end in 2026.
Co-founder and CEO of HMD Global, Jean-Francois Baril, made this announcement on Linkedin, saying that the upcoming in-house brand will be offered alongside Nokia devices. Moreover, he revealed that we can expect collaboration with “exciting new partners”, although he did not elaborate on this.
Baril claimed that the company is “the fastest growing 5G smartphone manufacturer year on year” and has been “a leader in sustainability with our repairable devices”. Earlier this year, HMD released the Nokia G22, its first smartphone to come with official self-repair support from iFixit.
The CEO stated that HMD is one of the largest mobile phone companies in Europe, with the company beginning its journey to bringing its manufacturing to the continent this year. With that, the tech giant is ready to “enter the market independently as a force to create a new world for telecommunications focused on consumer needs.” There is currently no public timeline for the HMD brand to be launched, nor has the company given out any details on what exactly it will be called.
