If you keep up with news on EV charging stations, then you’ve probably heard of the name Yinson GreenTech. For those who haven’t, this is the company behind Green EV Charge Sdn Bhd, the operator of chargEV. In addition to the charging network, the company also has RydeEV, an electric bike leasing service.
Launched over the weekend, RydeEV allows users to lease a choice of two electric bikes, dubbed the Ryder and the Hyper. The former is a TailG Warrior, which is equipped with a 2kW electric motor with 120Nm of torque, and a top speed of 65 km/h. As for the latter, we’re looking at an Okla MX, with its 4kW electric motor that’s capable of up to 180Nm of torque. Top speed is rated at 90 km/h.
One element that sets the two RydeEV bikes apart from your average electric bike is the fact that these work exclusively via battery swapping, which means no charging them at home. The battery in question comes in the form of two 1.65 kWh Oyika batteries, which the company claims can give both bikes up to 100km of range, provided they cruise at an average speed of 55 km/h.
When the charge on the leased RydeEV electric bikes do run low and you need to swap out the aforementioned batteries, you’ll have to head to one of the 15 locations within the Klang Valley. More locations will be added over time, and you can find the one nearest to you via the Oyika mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. You’ll also need this for the actual battery swapping process.
Going back to the two bikes, RydeEV is offering both electric bikes as part of either a three- or four-year lease. For the Ryder, these are listed as RM299 and RM250 a month, respectively. As for the Hyper, the prices are instead RM430 and RM339, respectively. The monthly fee during the lease period covers insurance, road tax and maintenance costs of the electric bikes, as well as allowing for unlimited battery swapping.
At the end of the lease period, users are given the choice to either return the electric bikes to RydeEV or to buy them for RM1. For the latter option, you’ll still have to sign up for a battery swapping subscription plan. No details about this plan has been shared so far. On a similar note, there’s also a 24-month B2B leasing option for both bikes, at RM299 a month for the Ryder and RM499 a month for the Hyper.
