If today was the day you psyched yourself up into buying Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag on Steam, then by gosh, you’ve really missed the boat on this one. As of this publication, Ubisoft appears to have quietly removed the game from the Valve-owned platform.
To be precise, the official Black Flag store page still lists the game, including the trailers, images, and reviews. However, the ability to purchase the game and add it to your library is no longer there. As for those who purchased the game prior and own it, you’ll be glad to know that you are still able to download, install, and play the game.
It is still unclear as to why Ubisoft has pulled Black Flag, arguably one of the franchise’s most popular installment, although earlier reports seem to suggest that the French developer and publisher has a remake for the game in the pipeline. That being said, the alleged remake was reportedly to still be “in its earliest stages” and that one of the teams involved is the Singapore studio. Makes sense, given that its team was the one responsible for developing the ocean technology.
Black Flag aside, Ubisoft is currently gearing for the launch of its new Assassin’s Creed IP, Mirage. The game is scheduled for 5 October, and will follow in the footsteps of Basim, the Assassin first introduced in Valhalla, but years before he embarked on his journey to the land of the Vikings.
