The Unifi Air 5G Unifi’s new RM149 plan that was spotted last month is now officially available for sign up via its official website. As previously detailed per its initial discovery last month, the new service offers users unlimited 5G-based wireless broadband via SIM without needing to install fibre cables in their homes.
The new plan comes with a 24-month contract and an upfront RM149 payment for Malaysian citizens, while non-Malaysians are charged at a RM300 refundable deposit. Terminating your subscription within the period will subject you to a penalty based on the router’s retail pricing (RM1,300) and the remaining months you have left. In an example provided in the plan’s FAQ, if you decided to cancel the plan with five months left in your contract, this will cost you a total of RM271 (RM1,300 / 24 x 5).
However, Unifi will allow you to terminate the contract penalty-free if it is proven that the 5G network at your location is poor and congested, or if the information provided by their customer service, consultant, resellers or agents are inaccurate. The telco adds that proven evidence that there is an element of fraud by its customer service consultants, resellers or agents will also warrant you to cancel the plan without penalty.
Included together with the new subscription is a WiFi 6 certified wireless router that’s configured to work exclusively with the telco’s Unifi Air 5G SIMs. According to Unifi, the router offers wireless internet connectivity to up to 30 devices, which is more than what was initially proposed in the plan’s initial discovery last month.
Speed-wise, the new RM149 Unifi Air 5G provides internet speeds of up to 150Mbps for both download and upload. However, even though it is advertised as “unlimited”, keep in mind that it is still subjected to the telco’s Fair Usage Policy (FUP), which means it will still have a usage cap.
