Starfield is now officially available and as you well know, AMD was appointed the exclusive PC partner for the game, meaning that at current, it only supports the red chipmaker’s resolution upscaling technology, FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR2). And while there is no word on when the game’s developer will implement support for NVIDIA’s DLSS technology, one modder has already jumped the gun and created such a mod and better yet, made it free for download.
The modder goes by the handle LukeFZ, who created the DLSS 3 mod for Starfield, and made freely available to PC Gamers via the modding forum, Nexus Mods. It’s generous offer by the modder, given that other modders in the community have already created similar mods for the game but are charging US$5 (~RM23) on average for gamers to use theirs.
It should be noted that LukeFZ’s Starfield mod, named DLSS-G, isn’t actually a whole new program that is being into the game but rather. they simply replace some codes within FSR by replacing with DLLs that are borrowed from NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 technology.
The technical details aside, LukeFZ claims that the end result is a significant boost in the framerates for Starfield, with the average frame count effectively doubling with the DLSS-G. For that matter, if you just so happen to be using a GeForce RTX 40 Series card, the end result is even better, because of the presence of Frame Generation in the NVIDIA-designed upscaling tool.
Needless to say. LukeFZ’s mod is still a work in progress. As such, it can’t be turned by conventional means, like a flip of the switch via the in-game menu. In fact, the current method of switching it on requires you to use a configuration file for the mod.
Of course, there is also the hope that the developers of Starfield, Bethesda, will release an update that adds NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.0 to the game, although when exactly that will happen is unclear.
