We’re just about one year past the launch of the GoPro Hero11 Black, so it makes sense that news of the sequel breaks right about now. And indeed, that’s what we have, with the company announcing the GoPro Hero12 Black. With it comes the usual list of incremental upgrades that you’d expect, plus a feature that, for whatever reason took this many iterations to include.
And that comes in the form of Bluetooth audio support. This means you can now connect your preferred pair of TWS buds and use it to record audio for your clips, as well as issue voice commands. The former is probably something that vloggers would appreciate over doing commentary after the fact.
The new generation action cam comes with the same Type 1/1.9 sensor as its predecessor, as well as supporting the same aspect ratios. In addition to the returning features, the GoPro Hero12 Black also features vertical capture, so you can immediately upload to social media platforms that use those rather than having to go into post-production first. The report notes that the latest entry also “has an updated user interface that has more simplified controls”.
For shooting modes, the GoPro Hero12 Black features options including 5.3K at 60fps, 4K at 120fps, or 2.7K at 240fps, as well as stills at 27MP. Also included is HDR support as part of the process. As for battery life, the company claims that it can last for 70 minutes shooting at 5.3K60, 58 minutes at 4K120, and 90 minutes at 5.3K30. If you want maximum shooting time, you ca get 155 minutes if you shoot at 1080p and 30fps.
Finally, there’s also the addition of a tripod socket. This means that you can now screw the action cam onto a tripod with the standard 1/4-20 tripod screw mount. This comes in addition to the usual mounts that the action cam comes with, so you’re now free to easily use the GoPro Hero12 with action cam as well as general camera accessories.
The GoPro Hero12 Black was announced with a price of US$400 (~RM,1870). No word on local pricing and availability details yet, but those should be coming shortly. Also announced alongside the GoPro Hero12 Black is the Max Lens Mod 2.0 which, when attached to the action cam, increases its field of view to up to 177 degrees.
