Sony, via its official PlayStation (PS) Blog, has announced that it will be increasing the pricing for its 12-month PS Plus subscription plans for all markets, including Malaysia. Justifying the change, the company explained that the adjustment will enable it to “continue bringing high-quality games and value added benefits” to the service. Regardless, many won’t be too thrilled about the hikes, especially those who are on the subscription’s premium tiers.
According to Sony, the 12-month fees for the PS Plus Essential, Extra and Deluxe will cost users RM235, RM400 and RM460 respectively starting from 6 September 2023 onwards. For your reference, the subscription price for all three tiers are currently at RM159, RM269 and RM309. Rest assured, Sony noted that the cost for the existing 1-month and 3-month options will remain unchanged.
In short, the Essential tier will see a bump of RM76, Extra at RM131, and Deluxe at RM151 – all of which are quite significant. Sony insists that the revised pricing is still far more affordable when compared to purchasing the 1-month or 3-month subscriptions over a 12-month period, which is actually true. For instance, choosing to continuously renew the monthly RM29 PS Plus Essential plan will cost you a total of RM348, which is RM113 more than the revised 12-month pricing. While more expensive than before, opting for the annual subscription will definitely save you a considerable amount of cash.
Sony adds that current 12-month subscribers to all tiers will not be affected, and the change won’t take effect until their next renewal date that occurs on or after 6 November 2023. However, any membership changes made on or after 6 September (ie: upgrades, downgrades, or buying additional time) will update a user’s plan reflecting the new prices.
Apart from the price hikes, the company has also revealed the PS Plus monthly games for September. The list includes the 2022 Saints Row reboot, Black Desert: Traveler Edition, and Generation Zero. All of these games will be made available to subscribers next week on Tuesday, 5 September until 2 October 2023.
