Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has given an update regarding the Rahmah 5G Package that was announced earlier this month. While we already know that it will be available starting from Merdeka Day, 31 August, the minister revealed that Malaysians will only have the opportunity to subscribe until 31 December 2023.
The Rahmah 5G Package is a postpaid plan that offers 60GB of data for RM60 per month and either a Samsung Galaxy A14 or an HONOR 90 Lite for only RM240. For the first 100,000 B40 customers who subscribe to the plan, they can get the phone at half off for RM120. The phone bundle comes with a 24-month contract along with a two-year warranty.
Telcos involved in Rahmah 5G include CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Unifi Mobile, and Yes. So far, none of the carriers have posted their respective packages on their website, so the exact details of these plan are still unknown, such as whether it is only offered with the device bundle or if users have the option to subscribe to only the data plan.
Additionally, there is a RM10 monthly rebate for civil servants on all existing telco plans that will kick in starting 16 September, which will last a whole year. Fahmi also added that his ministry is in talks with the companies to offer registered media practitioners a one-month rebate in September, although the details have yet to be finalised.
