Malaysian-born Sim Leisure Group has announced a collaboration with Australian company HavenXR to develop the HavenXR Centre, an extended reality medium for immersive movie experiences. The centres are set to open in both Malaysia and Singapore in Q1 of 2024.
HavenXR will provide a mix of virtual reality (VR) as well as practical effects for an interactive cinematic experience, where customers will get to roam and explore the virtual world as well as pick from a set of characters for choose-your-own-storyline plots. The company says that it will be able to accommodate up to four people at a time for these sessions.
The experiences are driven by Location-Based Virtual Reality (LBVR) using a proprietary headset setup that is being developed. Additionally, it revealed that it is working on an attraction called XR Coaster, which is a mixed-reality roller coaster ride, although there’s no specific timeline on when this might be launched.
When its centre opens next year, it will debut its first cinematic experience dubbed The Keeper, which is an interactive horror story. The firm says that they have other scripts in the pipeline and that more stories will be offered eventually. HavenXR CEO Tracy Whitelaw stated that each experience should be around 20 to 30 minutes long.
