Apple has been treating its range iPad tablets very well recently. Both the base and mini models have since gotten their blockier redesign, making them look like the Pro variants. The most recent iPad Air has also been juiced up to be nearly on par with the 11-inch iPad Pro. Arguably though, the Pro model tablets themselves have not been shown much love recently. That may change next year.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that the next iPad Pro models, coming out next year, will be getting their first major update since 2018. These are codenamed J717, J718, J720 and J721 for now, which will likely represent different storage options for the two sizes. Speaking of sizes, the 11-inch model will retain its screen real estate, but the 12.9-inch model will be bumped up ever so slightly to 13 inches. These will also be sporting OLED screens, making them the first Apple tablets to use them. Naturally, they’ll come with the latest M3 chip.
It’s not just the iPad Pro models either, as the newsletter claims that the accompanying Magic Keyboards will also be going through some change. One of the changes would be a larger trackpad, which is noted as a common complaint with the current models. Details on the other changes to the accessory was not described, but is is noted to make the Pro tablet more laptop-like.
All that being said, these new iPad Pro models, as well as the accompanying Magic Keyboard won’t be making an appearance this year. Makes sense, as the spotlight is on the new iPhone and Apple Watch models coming next month. Instead, these tablets will only be unveiled officially in the middle of next year, or according to the seasonal window in the report, spring or early summer. Other tablets may get unveiled in the meantime with more minor upgrades, but that’s not a certainty yet at this stage.
