We’ve seen Bethesda games be part of collaborations that ended up in gaming chairs. In fact, there were three – one involving DOOM 2016, another with the Fallout series, and a third involving The Elder Scrolls Online. These were practical to a degree, but for the upcoming Starfield, the now Microsoft subsidiary is turning the dial up to 11 with what is called the Dream Chair.
Rather than being a collaboration with gaming chair brand noblechairs, this time Bethesda worked with pillow brand Tempur instead for not just a chair, but a while cockpit. Fitting, considering the game being promoted by this marketing stunt is Starfield. The involvement of Tempur also makes sense since this is the brand that takes pride in its NASA roots. The Dream Chair also has NASA parts in it.
It's a long journey–you'll want a comfy cockpit.

The whole setup involving the Dream Chair and the accompanying cockpit are, while great to look at, probably not the most practical. Most of the bits and bobs on the setup are purely visual, with the only functional parts are for adjusting the chair itself. Which is probably great news then that this is not something that will be mass-produced.
The official tweets promoting the Dream Chair did not indicate that it is purely a marketing gimmick. But TechSpot cites personnel at the Xbox booth at Gamescom that the event in Germany was the only way for anyone to experience sitting in the chair and faux cockpit. You won’t even be able to play the game, as the only thing being shown on the screen is prerecorded footage. Once the event is over, the set will be auctioned off for charity.
Good looking as the Dream Chair may be, there are better merch to get if you really like the Starfield aesthetic. There are the limited edition Xbox controllers, as well as the headset, but the best one of them all is likely the LPV6 Chronomark smartwatch from the Collector’s Edition.
