The government has instructed telcos to increase the speed of internet services on 31 August for the 2023 National Day celebration in Putrajaya. This is according to National Day and Malaysia Day 2023 celebrations working committee secretary Mazlan Abd Mutalib, who stated that good internet access was important for those on duty during the event to ensure a smooth workflow.
“We do not want their duties to be hampered due to internet problems. The internet is a crucial element,” he said to news agency Bernama in an interview. Moreover, he was told that several telcos had already begun installing telecommunication transmitters in Dataran Putrajaya and testing the speed of the respective networks.
Mazlan added that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would keep an eye on the situation to ensure good internet service during the Merdeka event. Moreover, the committee secretary was satisfied with the level of logistical and technical preparations, which is apparently already 90% completed.
On Merdeka Day, all train services such as the LRT, MRT, and Monorail will start operating from 4 AM, while select stations operating on 30 August will remain open until 2 AM. There will also be several free shuttle buses to take people around Putrajaya and connecting them to the MRT.
