Back in May, PlayStation revealed what was then known as Project Q, a handheld device that’s dedicated to being the Remote Play device for the PS5. That handheld now has a name, and it is PlayStation Portal. It will also be launched later this year, the company says.
Beyond that though, it doesn’t look like the company has much that’s new to say about the handheld dedicated to streaming games from the PS5. As was already made known during the initial reveal, the PlayStation Portal streams games from your PS5 to its 8-inch 1080p screen at 60fps.
One minor thing to note is that you can play games via the handheld and use a DualSense controller. But that would be quite redundant as the whole point of the PlayStation Portal is the built-in features of the next-gen controller anyway. Also mentioned in the announcement post is the fact that you can’t use this handheld for PS VR2 games, which is sort of obvious since that would require the headset.
With all that being said, the only real new bit of info that we get is the price of the PlayStation Portal. The blog post lists a price of US$199.99 (~RM928), but there’s no price for the Malaysian market just yet. Similarly, there’s no release window for the handheld beyond later this year, nor dates for when pre-orders open. But for what it’s worth, the company says that more details will be announced as we approach said opening of the pre-order window.
