The Tesla Supercharger site at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur has apparently gone online. This discovery was reported by a member of Malaysian Electric Vehicle Owners Club (MyEVOC) on Facebook, who also shared a Tesla app screenshot indicating that one of seven available stations at the location is being utilised.
The same image also revealed that the Supercharger site at Pavilion offers a maximum power delivery of 250kW, and charges RM1.25 per kWh. To put the latter into perspective, fully charging the base Tesla Model Y’s 57.5kWh battery will cost you around RM72. Realistically, it’s more likely for anyone to charge their EVs when the percentage is close to 50% or below, so rest assured that you won’t be spending that much… unless you really intended to push your luck for some reason.
Speaking of recklessness, the screenshot provided also revealed the amount charged for idling at a Tesla Supercharger station. Hogging a charger after your EV has finished charging will cost you RM4 per minute, meaning that you’ll be charged an extra RM120 if you decide to keep it parked at the spot for an additional 30 minutes. However, as pointed out by the Tesla app, you’ll be waived from paying the fee if you manage to move your car within five minutes after a full charge.
Just in case you’re wondering, Supercharger stations are currently exclusively available for Tesla cars, so you won’t be able to top-up EVs from other brands just yet. This may likely change in the future as the company is required to open at least 30% of its charging sites to the public, as per its agreement with MITI.
Apart from Pavilion KL, Tesla’s website currently reveals that there will be twelve other potential locations in Peninsular Malaysia that will feature the Supercharger sites. Eight of which are based in the Klang Valley, while the other four are located in Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, and Johor respectively. It is still not known when the company plans to activate the remaining stations.
