Earlier in the month, Threads, an Instagram app, announced that it was working on a web version and a search function. Both were said to be available in a few weeks. Now, it looks like the former would be the first to get rolled out to users, if a recent report is to be believed.
The Wall Street Journal cites people familiar with Meta’s plans as saying that the web version of Threads will launch early this week. There’s of course the usual caveat that plans aren’t final and could change. No mention of when the search feature will become available though, which suggests that it is further down the line compared to the availability of its web version.
As mentioned before, you can technically use Threads on a web browser right now. That being said, you will have to start the process by visiting a link to an existing post or profile, and navigate from there. Which, to say the least, is far from the best way to make use of social media. But in the same vein, the only meaningful difference between getting a proper web version of the platform and the way it is now is that you’ll have access to your feeds. Without the search function, your experience will still be quite limited.
All that being said, Threads has been adding missing features as a pretty steady pace. One would hope that the search function will show up soon, assuming this alternative to X, formerly Twitter, can keep up the pace.
