Shell Malaysia has launched its own mobile app, with the convenience of users in mind. The app allows you to pay for your fuel from within your car, with the only thing you need to do once you step out of your vehicle is the act of refueling itself. Naturally, there’s a short signup process via the app itself before you can start doing so, including linking a payment method. But for now, your options on that front is limited to credit or debit cards.
Once that is one, the process of paying for your fuel starts with you simply driving up to a Shell station, and driving to a pump. With location permissions granted, the app will identify which station you are at, and from there, you key in the pump number. From there, you pick one of the six preset fuel amount based on its price. There’s also a full tank option, which reserve up to RM200 for your fuel payment.
The next step involves making use of any vouchers that you have. Shell says that there is no limit to the number of vouchers that you can use. With that in mind, you can technically get topped up at no cost, if you’ve accrued enough vouchers to do so.
Finally, the actual step of refueling. This goes on as it usually does, but the Shell app will track the amount of fuel pumped into your vehicle during the process. So regardless of the option you chose in the beginning, you’ll only be charged the amount that went into your vehicle.
Naturally, as with most apps of this kind, the Shell app has its BonusLink loyalty rewards system integrated, letting you claim things like the aforementioned petrol vouchers. Even if you don’t already have a BonusLink card, you’ll be assigned one as you set up your account on the app.
Finally, the Shell app also lets you search for stations near you. You can filter from the list stations that provide specific facilities that may not be available in all stations. These include stations that provide oil changing services, to those with Costa Coffee availability. If you drive an EV, you can also get the filter to only show stations with the Shell Recharge service available.
Worth noting though is that for now, not every Shell station is listed on the app’s station finder. The company says that the current number of stations listed is around the 600 mark, with plans to extend this to all of its stations nationwide, numbering over 1000, by late September or early October.
