September is just around the corner, and we’re expecting several new product announcements incoming from different tech brands. One of them being GoPro, which more often than not unveils its latest action camera within this window. And according to WinFuture journalist Roland Quandt, this is likely going to be the case as he has somehow obtained key images and information for the unannounced GoPro Hero12 Black.
In his most recent report, Quandt is claiming that this year’s iteration of the popular action camera will only see minor upgrades this time around. That being said, it is suggested that the GoPro Hero12 Black will retain an identical design as its predecessor, therefore featuring the same button layouts, camera position, ports, and water resistance at up to 10 metres of depth. Additionally, the sizes of its dual screens are unchanged, where the front display is said to measure at 1.4-inches while the rear comes in at 2.27-inches.
Similarly, the GoPro Hero12 Black will retain the 27MP sensor from before, which entails for video recordings at up to 5.3K resolution at 60 frames per second, and also still image capture at 24.7MP. As for features, Quandt claims that most of the built-in tools such as HyperView, Horizon Lock and so on will remain unchanged, except for the HyperSmooth image stabilisation feature which will be upgraded to the newer 6.0 version.
The leakster adds that despite it still using the same 1,720mAh Enduro battery from before, the upcoming Hero12 Black can achieve a maximum recording time of up to 70 minutes at 5.3K 60 fps, which is 9 minutes longer than its predecessor. Shooting at the same resolution but at a lower fps of 30, on the other hand, will extend its recording time up to 1.5 hours on a single charge. If true, this improvement in battery optimisation will be a much appreciated feature for a lot of heavy users.
Lastly, Quandt claims that GoPro is set to launch the new GoPro Hero12 Black globally on 13 September 2023, retailing at a starting price of EUR450 (~RM2,277). For your reference, last year’s model launched at RM2,399 in Malaysia, though keep in mind that pricing may differ from one market to another.
