It appears that Microsoft is gearing up to launch the sequel to its flagship convertible laptop in Malaysia soon. As first reported by Nextrift, a listing of the device has been spotted in the SIRIM database under the name Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2, which also revealed that it was recently approved by the certification, inspection and testing body earlier this month on 9 August 2023.
Interestingly, the company itself has yet to announce the new convertible laptop, and mentions of it have only been circulating through rumours. Needless to say, the listing of the Surface Laptop Studio 2 in SIRIM’s database confirms that it does indeed exist, and a potential local launch is very likely to happen soon.
The upcoming device is expected to inherit its predecessor’s form factor, which features a Dynamic Woven Hinge that allows it to transition between three modes. These include the traditional Laptop mode, the gaming and media oriented Stage mode, and the tablet-like Studio mode.
In terms of specifications, rumours suggest that the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 would be powered by 13th generation Intel processors, with its highest configuration sporting an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. Besides that, it is also said to feature more ports than last year’s model, as well as an upgraded haptic touchpad and better AI capabilities.
Whether or not these rumours are true is still anyone’s guess, and we’d only know for certain once Microsoft officially unveils it. When exactly that will happen is also a mystery for now, but at least we know that a local launch is definitely in the cards.
