Robert Hallock, a man who was once a prominent figure within the ranks of AMD, recently announced that he is now officially working with the red team’s rival, Intel. Hallock worked at AMD for 12 years, starting off as Product Marketing Manager, before ultimately working his way up to the position of Director of Technical marketing, a position that he held for a little over two years.
As of today, Hallock joins Intel as a Senior Director of Technical Marketing where, according to his Linkedin post, he will be handing and focusing on AI and consumer processors. “I’ve always been happiest working on the next big thing in Client, and spending some time on AI is surely that. The PC is never boring, of course, but AI sure seems like an unusually unique moment. It’s not often an all-new category of accelerator shows up, after all. We are—all of us—on the cusp of transformative performance improvements for speech, text, music, images, video, and more. There’s a fantastic team at Intel working to make those everyday experiences better, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it!”
Hallock isn’t the first major figure in the tech world to have made the transition into Intel. Raja Koduri, a name many among gamers will undoubtedly know, initially headed AMD’ Radeon Technologies Group for several years, before ultimately shifting over to the blue chipmaker’s side to help develop and create its ARC GPU division, before ultimately leaving to create his own ventures into AI.
There is also Tom Petersen, a former engineer from NVIDIA and PC Perspective’s Ryan Shrout, both of whom joined Intel’s ARC division and helping the chipmaker get its current ARC GPUs off the ground.
Intel will be hosting its annual Intel InnovatiON event, which is scheduled to take place on 19 and 20 September. Given that AI seems to be a topic of focus for the chipmaker this year, perhaps attendees will have a chance to see Hallock present for the event.
