WhatsApp has officially announced a long-awaited feature for video calls. First released in limited beta testing back in May, the app has finally added screen sharing, allowing users to do online presentations from their phone, provide tech support more easily, or just browsing together with friends and family.
The new feature can accessed by tapping on the screen share button while on a video call with other users. You can choose to either share a live view of just a specific app or your entire screen. Additionally, WhatsApp introduced a new landscape mode for video calls, giving you more room to share content during the session.
According to what the company told TechCrunch, screen sharing is being gradually rolled out to Android, iOS, and even the Windows Desktop app. This means that not all users will be getting it immediately, so if you don’t have it yet, it will eventually be available to you in the coming days.
Another new tool that has been recently added to WhatsApp is the ability to edit media captions, extending the functionality of its message editing feature. This allows you to edit the caption of a picture or video that has already been sent.
