Leakster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks) has released a new batch of renders of OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone, indirectly confirmed by the company itself to be known as the OnePlus Open. This time around, the reliable tech insider claims that the newer depictions of the device are allegedly based on pre-production unit visuals, which looks drastically different from his initial leak that was shared earlier in June.
For starters, the supposed OnePlus Open now sports a smaller form factor that’s almost reminiscent of the Find N2. In essence, the new leak suggests that the phone will feature a wider aspect ratio instead of the typical tall format that’s often featured on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Fold series and so on. That being said, rumours insist that OnePlus’ first foldable will still be larger than OPPO’s own, though exact measurements are still unconfirmed at this time.
Additionally, those hoping for a thin book-styled foldable smartphone in the same vein as the HONOR Magic V2 will be disappointed. Based on OnLeaks’ renders, the device now appears much thicker than initially proposed, while its surrounding frame (including the external cover of its hinge) are shown to feature flat edges instead of curved.
Another major change is the circular camera island on the OnePlus Open’s back, which appears more humongous in the new leak – something that might not sit well with some fans due to the weird proportions. Nevertheless, as before, this particular part of the phone is suggested to house a triple camera setup that’s supposedly helmed by a 50MP primary sensor. There’s also a simplified Hasselblad branding visible on the right side, which implies the camera maker’s involvement in the development of the device’s imaging system.
Other observable details worth pointing out is what appears to be a faux leather finish on the rear case, and the more pronounced corners on each edge (not counting the ones connected to the hinge). Last but not least, found on the external display is a top-centred cutout for a selfie camera, while another front-facing shooter can be found on the upper-right corner of the internal screen. Prior rumours claim that one of these features a 32MP sensor.
The OnePlus Open is rumoured to launch sometime this month, but there’s a chance that it could actually miss this window. According to a recent tip by leakster Max Jambor, the foldable’s debut has been “pushed back a bit” due to a change in supplier for its screen. Whether or not this is actually the case is still uncertain, as OnePlus themselves have yet to confirm a date.
