OPPO Malaysia has recently updated its official Facebook page, teasing the upcoming arrival of a new smartphone for the local market. The product in question is revealed to be the A58 series, which initially launched in China in November 2022 and just recently saw the debut of a 4G-only variant back in July this year.
Apart from confirming the line-up’s imminent local launch, the brand did not provide any further information along with the announcement. Therefore, details such as specs, pricing and even the expected launch date are still unknown at this time. Nevertheless, here’s a quick rundown of both variants of the OPPO A58 series for those unfamiliar with them. For starters, both the 5G and 4G models share the same design language, though the latter is slightly larger and features a punch-hole cutout instead of a water-drop notch for its selfie camera.
The OPPO A58 5G features a 6.56-inch LCD display with HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. It also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, dual speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and is rated IP54 in terms of dust and water resistance. Meanwhile, under its hood is a 5G-enabled MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset, along with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage, as well as a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging via USB-C.
On its back is a dual camera setup which consists of a 50MP primary and a 2MP depth sensor, while housed within the water-drop notch on its display in front is an 8MP selfie camera. Apart from that, the 5G variant runs on OPPO’s ColorOS 12.1 platform which is based on Android 12, and has a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
Next up is the OPPO A58 4G, which has a slightly larger 6.72-inch LCD display with FHD+ resolution, but with a lower refresh rate of just 60Hz. Like its sibling, the phone too comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack, though its water resistance rating is only rated at IPX4. As for its internals, equipped on this variant is a MediaTek Helio G85, which is paired together with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Powering the phone, on the other hand, is an identical 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support via USB-C.
In terms of photography, on the back of the 4G variant is a 50MP primary with a 2MP depth sensor, while in front is an 8MP selfie camera housed within a punch-hole cutout on its display. Besides that, the phone comes with Android 12 via ColorOS 12.1, and there’s also a microSD card slot for expanded storage.
In China, the 5G version of the OPPO A58 is sold at a starting price of CNY1,699 (~RM1,075), while the 4G variant starts from IDR2,500,000 (~RM750) when it first launched in Indonesia. As usual, there’s a chance that memory configurations may be different once either model eventually releases in Malaysia.
