A few months back, The Verge reported that the second generation model of the Sonos Move portable speaker was on the way. There was a significant chunk of its supposed features list featured in the report, with the usual disclaimer that things were subject to change. Now, the tech news outlet has a followup report with even more features, as well as a more straightforward name of Sonos Move 2.
New details in the current report includes a weight of over six pounds, which translates to over 2.7kg. The Sonos Move 2 will also reportedly feature “true stereo playback” thanks to its dual angled tweeters. But probably the biggest upgrade would come in the form of battery life. The sequel model is reportedly “deliver continuous playback of up to 24 hours” which is a major improvement over the previous 10 hours. Beyond this, it is also made to use less energy when idle, improving standby time.
Other improvements on the Sonos Move 2 include porting over the improved controls from the Era 100 and Era 300, including a dedicated volume slider. Mentioned previously was the USB-C charging port that can also be used for in-line playback via an adapter. The new report notes that this can also be used to charge other mobile devices, which can be handy, and an easy sacrifice to make if it really has a 24-hour playback time.
Also included in the report is a tentative release window of late September. Noted as colour choices for the Sonos Move 2 include black, white and olive. As for its price, it is currently pegged at US$449 (~RM2,046), though it remains to be seen what this will translate to when it gets officially launched in the local market.
