If you live in the Putrajaya area and frequent the GSC Cinema in Alamanda Putrajaya, there’s some bad news for you. The cinema chain has just announced that it will be closing said outlet in two weeks time. Specifically, the cinema outlet will cease operations on 14 August.
This announcement comes via the official GSC X – formerly Twitter – account, which also notes that the closing cinema outlet has 15 years of history to it. Despite the closing date, the cinema will still have screenings up until the day before it gets shuttered. Beyond that date though, the company invites moviegoers in the area to head over to IOI City Mall instead.

The cinemas in the aforementioned malls naturally have a much shorter history. GSC first launched the outlet in IOI City Mall 1, or the mall’s west wing, back in March of 2019. It was the third of the company’s 4DX cinemas. Earlier this year, the cinema chain launched the outlet in IOI City Mall 2, or the east wing, with this one being the first IMAX with Laser outlet in the country.
GSC has announced closures of three high profile cinemas in the past few years. The first in recent memory was the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur outlet, which shut down in 2020. Then, a year later and during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company announced the closure of the Cheras Leisure Mall and Berjaya Times Square outlets.
