The name OnePlus Open was teased around the same time as the Samsung Unpacked event that officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5. Prior to this, the OnePlus foldable was known as the V Fold, and at the time, rumours pointed to a launch sometime in the third quarter of the year, or more specifically in August. Unfortunately, an industry leakster has claimed that the launch of said foldable is getting pushed back, but for a good reason.
Max Jambor claims on X, previously Twitter, that this is due to the OnePlus Open having to switch suppliers for its display. The leakster says that the upcoming foldable is moving from using screens from Chinese manufacturer BOE to those made by Samsung. Which is another small dose of irony considering when the company decided to put out its teaser for its foldable phone.
Open Launch got pushed back a bit, but no worries the delay is actually good in a way
Open was supposed to have a BOE screen but turns out it was 👎🏼 – new panels are from Samsung ✅
Stay tuned for an exciting device!

That’s as far as details go, in terms of what the leakster has shared. But overall, this most likely means that the OnePlus Open, or V Fold, will most likely miss the rumoured August launch window. It will also probably miss the third quarter window as well, if the change in screen supplier is a recent one. Less certain is if the phone will still be able to make it into the market within the year.
Overall, this would probably be a worthy delay. If the company is not happy with the screens that it is currently getting for the OnePlus Open, then changing to another one would probably mean less issues for customers down the line. That is of course assuming the next bunch of displays don’t run into other issues of their own.
