Last month, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the distribution of the government’s e-wallert initiative for the youth, e-Tunai Belia. This was targeted at full-time students at institutes of higher learning. But today, the Prime Minister has announced one for working adults, with a pretty high annual income cutoff point.
The amount of this round of e-Tunai distribution is RM100, and it will be for adults in the country earning RM100,000 or less per annum. Which translates to about RM8333 a month. As you’d expect, Anwar says that this is expected to benefit 10 million people in the B40 and M40 income category, which is just under half of the adult population in the country.
NST reports that the announcement was made at the launching of the Madani Economy: Empowering the People blueprint. Despite the announcement though, details on the actual distribution itself are not yet available, at least at the time of writing. Judging from previous e-Tunai payouts, chances are we will see some familiar names like Touch ‘n Go eWallet, GrabPay, ShopeePay and BigPay.
In the same vein, it is likely that it will also come with the same list of restrictions as before. Conjecture aside, we will still have to wait for confirmation from the government regarding all the missing details of this e-Tunai distribution.
